Cenmox: Potent Broad-Spectrum Antibiotic for Bacterial Infections
Cenmox (Amoxicillin 500mg) is a high-potency, broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic formulated for the effective treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections. It functions by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the eradication of susceptible organisms. Trusted by healthcare professionals globally, Cenmox offers reliable, rapid-acting therapy for both community-acquired and certain hospital-associated infections. Its well-established safety profile and high bioavailability make it a first-line choice in empirical and directed antibiotic regimens.

Common use
Cenmox is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by susceptible strains of microorganisms. Common clinical applications include respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, and sinusitis; ear, nose, and throat infections including otitis media and pharyngitis; genitourinary infections such as cystitis and urethritis; skin and soft tissue infections; and dental abscesses. It is also used as part of combination therapy for Helicobacter pylori eradication.
Dosage and direction
The dosage of Cenmox must be individualized based on the infection severity, pathogen susceptibility, and patient factors including renal function.
Adults and children ≥40 kg:
- Mild to moderate infections: 500 mg every 12 hours or 250 mg every 8 hours
- Severe infections: 875 mg every 12 hours or 500 mg every 8 hours
Children <40 kg:
- 20–40 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 8 hours, or 25–45 mg/kg/day in divided doses every 12 hours
Dosage adjustment is required in patients with renal impairment (creatinine clearance <30 mL/min). Administer orally with or without food; taking with food may reduce gastrointestinal upset. Complete the full prescribed course even if symptoms improve earlier to prevent resistance.
Precautions
- Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis
- Periodic assessment of renal, hepatic, and hematopoietic function is advised during prolonged therapy
- May result in the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi; monitor for superinfection
- Not recommended for use in patients with mononucleosis due to increased risk of skin rash
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed (Category B); excreted in breast milk—use with caution in nursing mothers
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, other penicillins, or any component of the formulation
- History of amoxicillin-associated cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction
- Patients with a previous history of severe hypersensitivity reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis) to beta-lactam antibiotics
Possible side effect
Common side effects (≥1%) may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, and skin rash. Less frequently (<1%), patients may experience headache, dizziness, candidiasis, reversible agranulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, or elevated liver enzymes. Serious but rare adverse effects include Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea, anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and interstitial nephritis. Discontinue use and seek medical attention if severe reactions occur.
Drug interaction
- Probenecid decreases renal tubular secretion of amoxicillin, increasing blood levels
- Concurrent use with oral anticoagulants may potentiate anticoagulant effect
- Bacteriostatic antibiotics (e.g., tetracyclines, macrolides) may interfere with bactericidal action
- Reduces efficacy of oral contraceptives; advise alternative contraception during therapy
- Allopurinol may increase the incidence of skin rash
Missed dose
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose may include severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, electrolyte imbalance, or crystaluria. Management is supportive; maintain hydration and electrolyte balance. Amoxicillin is dialyzable—hemodialysis may be considered in significant overdose, especially in renal impairment.
Storage
Store at room temperature (15–30°C) in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date printed on the packaging.
